The idea

Dave Baptie, a 54-year-old from Lincoln, has decided to take on the challenge of climbing Mt Kilimanjaro with 8 other family members from far and wide. His closest family is in Sheffield with his sister’s family being spread out in the USA, so the whole family rarely get a chance to meet up – weddings and important events generally being the motivation. In 2021 his parent’s diamond wedding anniversary saw such an opportunity to get the whole family together but, as with many other things at that time, the pandemic had other ideas and so it was cancelled. When conditions allowed the family were able to get together in the summer of 22, and the idea of a challenge was hatched by one of his nephews. The idea got the thumbs up from his 2 brothers and all their partners, and his 2 uncles decided to also grasp the opportunity; his parents at 86 decided that maybe they would sit this one out!
